Le Michigan borde le lac Supérieur. Son nom provient du mot ojibwé «mishigamaa» qui signifie «grande eau» ou «grand lac». Le Michigan compte 9 995 915 habitants (en 2018) et est le seul État à être formé de deux péninsules. Celle au nord longe la majeure partie du sud du lac Supérieur.
Sur le Circuit du lac Supérieur, le poste frontalier pour entrer dans l’État du Michigan se trouve à Sault Ste. Marie (Ontario). Si vous partez des États-Unis et que vous devez traverser vers la partie canadienne du circuit touristique, vous franchirez le pont international à péage de Sault Ste. Marie à partir de Sault Ste. Marie (Michigan).
Le Michigan partage aussi une frontière avec l’État du Wisconsin, à l’ouest. Il y a quelques autres postes frontaliers entre les États-Unis et le Canada dans l’État, à Detroit, notamment le pont Blue Water, le tunnel Detroit-Windsor et le pont Ambassador.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore est l’une des attractions bien connues du Circuit du lac Supérieur au Michigan. Ce parc national est renommé pour ses falaises multicolores spectaculaires qui dominent le lac Supérieur, ses formations de grès comme Miners Castle et Chapel Rock, ses plages, ses dunes, ses sentiers et ses chutes d’eau. Les visiteurs peuvent explorer les rivages en bateau, en kayak et par son grand réseau de sentiers de randonnée.
